Gotham Career is a brand new mode to the PGR series... you haven't seen anything like this in previous PGR games. This is really the "meat and potatoes" of PGR4, and the area in which we're hoping people will spend the most time. The idea is that you're a real-life PGR racing hero, with a name, nationality, and rank. You start your career at number 72 in the world... or in lay-mans terms: dead last. The objective is to play through the season, tackling championships and invitationals until you finally reach Rank 1. This will take several seasons to achieve, and as you gain skills and popularity you'll find more events open up to you.
A detailed calendar screen lets you see what events are coming up in the season. The little trophies are championships, and the little envelopes are invitations. The two types of event are fundamentally different to one another...
Championship: A series of events all one after another. All events in a championship take place in the same location, for example in Season 1 on the 1st September you'll be racing in Macau for 3 events (two street races and a breakthrough). Then for the next championship you'll be racing somewhere different, like the continent-hoping racing superstar you hope to one day become!
Invitational: A one-off event, which you don't have to accept if you don't fancy it. Imagine if Ferrari or Lamborghini call you, and say "we've got this new vehicle for you to test drive, come check it out! You can keep the ride, but you need to set a new lap record for us first". Invitationals are slightly more quirky than championship events, for example there is one called the "Electric Vs Petrol Showdown": you take the wheel of a two-seater, silent, electric sportscar (the Tesla Roadster) and face-off against a gas-guzzling, noisy, mean machine (the Ferrari Testarossa).
Majors: Every few months, there is a major. These take place at the end of each continent's participation in the career, i.e. when you move from Asia to Europe there will be a major. These are the most important events in Gotham Career, as they're worth much more points than a regular championship. Winning a major is a great way to climb the ranks and head further toward that "best in the world" spot, but it will be tough as every single AI driver takes part. If you are below the cut-off rank you must qualify. If you successfully qualify you'll be eligible to race in the knockout events, which are either time or race based. The end of the season is capped by a Global Cup, which is the largest major and the most important event for you to try and win.
In Gotham Career, you'll be racing against 71 other AI drivers. Each of them has a name, nationality, and (most importantly) personality. Some will be fast, some will be slow. Some will be aggressive, and others timid. The most important thing to remember is that these guys are all taking part in the same events you are, earning points and rising or falling on the Driver Standings leaderboard. You'll nurture rivalries as you progress through the league... moving from Amateur to Professional to Hotshot, and finally the Master rank. Each new rank earns you a new garage, and an achievement for your X360 profile.
